Compassion is all about kindness, caring and comfort. In order to build strong connections and positive relationships with others, we want to make sure we are engaging in kindness and gratitude for ourselves and others.

We asked you to write a Thank You letter to yourself or someone else. Here are your submissions!

"A letter to myself looking back, you may sometimes be upset. After all, life isn't always fair. but you have been doing a great job dealing with the potholes life may be digging. You have a friendly personality. In high school, not many people are willing to open up to others, or more importantly, be kind to those who you have never met. But you are different. No mater how few friends you have, someone must still care about you, and you likely do the same. You remember when you were in woodworking, where you helped a fellow classmate to load and plane their wood, and you liked that they appreciated it. That feeling of kindness being repaid, is one of the best feelings you've likely felt. Sometimes life will knock you down hard, but you must get up twice as hard."

"To myself, I want to thank you for all that you have done for yourself. Firstly, how you take care of your body physically. You always nourish your body with food when you are hungry instead of depriving yourself from it. This helps you to have a healthy relationship with food and helps your self esteem. I thank you for allowing yourself to exercise and workout to make your body stronger. This is what enables you to do all of the amazing things that you want to do. You can play sports, dance your heart out, and have inspiring adventures. By keeping your body healthy you are keeping yourself happy and healthy. Next, I thank you for being confident in yourself and reminding yourself of the person you are and the person you want to be. I am inspired by your ability to set goals and work towards them. I like that when you look in the mirror you smile. It makes me so happy that you are able to be happy with yourself and be proud of who you are. I am thankful for you for how you treat others. I like that you get to know someone before forming an opinion about them. I like that you help others whenever you can. I like that you don’t change yourself for other people. I am grateful that you are strong enough to walk away from hard situations and from people who don’t make you happy. I appreciate that you surround yourself with people who add to your life and make it better. You need to stop dwelling on the past because your past has made you the amazing person you are today. You need to stop worrying about the future because with your hard work and determination I know that you will do great things. Live in the moment because you have such a beautiful and joyful soul that deserves to cherish the little moments in your life that make it so amazing. You give light to this world. Thank you."

"Dear Pierse, I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for all your hard work and positive energy for the last year. You have been a true champion and when times were difficult you used positive reinforcement to solve the problem. The last year has been very challenging but you have preserved through and well as helping others around you to keep the energy positive if it is coming up with activities to complete as a family or positive affirmation when needed by others you have not let the hard times get you down. When you do feel at times life is getting overwhelming you find positive ways to help out around the house, for example cleaning your room or helping your parents around the home, you always keep it real. Thank you for taking time for yourself to find solace for yourself for example, reading a book or walking your dog or praying to the lord, it is uplifting to take alone time for yourself. Pierse you are an uplifting, positive person who is always taking care of others, you brighten up any room and are the life of any party (post covid). You are on the right path to a bright and successful future in anything you put your mind to. And I want to thank you for all that you do and all that you have and will accomplish! Stay positive and there will be better days to come. Pierse A"

"I appreciate myself because I am kind and helpful to my family, I go to swim practice and I spend a lot of time with my sister. I love spending time with my sister because we always have fun and she makes me laugh. I also appreciate how I don't sleep in late very often. Something that I did that I am grateful for is traveling around the US with my family. I loved that because we were all happy and had a great time spending time together! I love spending time with my family and doing things like playing games or watching a movie together. I am also grateful for keeping a clean space for myself that I enjoy being in. I also appreciate being on time for my google meeting calls for school. QUOTES When you focus on the good, the good gets better Keep your face to the sunshine and you can not see the shadow"

"Dear Me, Thank you for everything you do! Without you, I couldn’t function. Literally. You make great memories to happily look back on, and experience moments that makes life more enjoyable. You are always loyal to your friends, and never turn your back on them. When times are tough, you stick it out and stand by what you believe in, no matter the cost. Even with the odds against you, you always manage to keep pushing for what you think is right. This is a very admirable trait, and it’s lucky for you to have it. “Nothing is more noble, nothing more venerable, than loyalty”- Cicero. You also have a lot of confidence in yourself, which makes you a good leader and ready to tackle life as it comes. Confidence is hard to come by, especially as a teen, so thank you so much for that. It makes life so much so much easier. Thank you for always knowing when to take breaks and take care of yourself. Self care is extremely important, because it relieves stress, anxiety, and it is overall relaxing. It’s so great that you always know when you’re at your limit, and always practice self care. I appreciate when you wash your face, meditate, take breaks by yourself, or even just take some time to breathe. Even a little bit of time is worth so much. Finally, thank you for being kind to everyone around you. You go through so much in a day, and still find time to check up on your friends, take care of your family, and make the people around you happy. That is very admirable, and I’m so thankful that you’re like that! Remember that you are loved, worthy, and can accomplish anything you can set your mind to. Once again, thank you for all that you do for yourself, and for others. Love, Me"

"Thank you for being a good person, caring about others, and yourself. You shouldn’t change for anybody and always stick up for what is right. Always have a positive mindset you are great just the way you are!"

"Never let life get you down. 2021, february. Sometimes life sucks. That can just sometimes happen. After all, 2020 is widely considered one of the worst years by an entire generation. And of course, stuff like that can’t simply be stopped by you alone. As I’m writing this, most governments have no idea how to solve the ongoing pandemic, or at least how to stop it without crashing the economy for like a third time in a hundred years. However, there is one thing you must always keep in mind, to not stress about what you can’t change. Sure, during this time, it might be difficult to find friends, or fun activities. Maybe you miss your relatives up in New Brunswick, or miss the fact that before the pandemic, you were going to some place in America, which was so long ago, you don’t even remember the name of the place. But you had no control over those factors, they just happened. Right now, you shouldn't worry about that. You don’t need to worry about opportunities the pandemic denied you. There is just one thing you need to worry about and that's what you will do right now. Make the best out of a bad situation. You’ve never had more time to yourself. Never more time to enjoy nice walks. Never more time to play a new videogame or such. Never more time to have fun with your family. Never more time to think about what you plan to do next. So stop worrying about the negatives. The world issues, the personal issues, and the problems you can’t control. You may feel alone. you may feel scared. You might even feel angry. After all, there are all sorts of mask protesters, who are now lining up to be first for the vaccine. But you don’t need to worry about any of that. All you need to worry about is what you are going to do, right now."

"Dear sister, I love you so much, and I am so glad that with COVID, one good thing is I get to see you more often. You have been so amazing during these times, and continue to impress me with your kindness, and creativity every day. I love how you are always making sure everyone around you is happy, and if not, letting them know they are loved. You do so many things on an every day basis that I am grateful for, but specifically today, you cake to check up on me during my class. I know it wasn't a very big thing, but it was good to take a second to talk to you, and it made me smile. I remember also, when you were little and I was doing homework, or reading in my room, you would come up with coloring books or puzzles for us to do, which was super sweet. I know sometimes we don't get along, but I hope you know how grateful I am for you, and I can't wait to see what a beautiful person you become. Love always, your sister"

"Hi, Thank you for being awesome! You are amazing and strong. You are also kind to your friends and family. Please remember that you can survive school work because you are smart. You will pass your courses because you work so hard and submit your assignments on time. Keep up the good work! Love, Me :)"

"Thank you for working hard on your science and math courses this semester and for achieving above 90% in both courses.  I knew if you worked hard and set your mind to it that you could achieve this goal despite the challenges that on-line learning has brought.  I’m so proud of you.  Thank you for waking up today and taking care of yourself by exercising, eating healthy and getting some good rest. Thank you for being kind to your brothers.  This can sometimes be difficult with your younger brother as he can be annoying at times.  I’m glad you had the strength to be the bigger person and just ignore him and walk away when he was challenging you.

Dealing with this COVID pandemic has been difficult at times.  It has made me feel sad, lonely and really isolated from others.  Thank you to myself for trying to stay positive through all of this and for really finding what is important in life which is family and health and finding the good in this bad situation.  Thank you for the inner strength and courage to get through this difficult time.

I feel that I am a very kind and caring person towards others.  I always try to make others feel good and treat others as I want to be treated.  I want to thank myself for being a good person because I know I always consider other people’s feelings.  I feel that I live my life with integrity and try to shine my light wherever I go. I am truthful and always try to do the right thing and because of this, I feel that I deserve to thank myself for living with integrity and being authentic. Life has posed many challenges and obstacles that I have had to overcome.  Thank you to myself for persevering and overcoming these issues.  Thank you for never giving up!

Lastly, thank you to myself for simply being me.  I may not be perfect and I have made many mistakes, but I learn from them and try to be a better person.  I feel that I am a unique, caring, kind and compassionate person and for this I am thankful.

And remember to…….

“Do something today, that you’ll be thankful for tomorrow”"

You can still do this activity on your own - write a thank you letter to yourself or someone else! Make it positive! This helps improve our wellness, and mental health overall.

A big thanks to everyone who participated and engaged in any way with us back in January for the Building Strong Connections session.
